How does a changing city soundscape affect corvid populations?
Are you interested in birds and behavioral ecology? Networked sensors? Robots? Audio processing? Machine learning?
You do not need to be an expert in all of these fields. I’m seeking student collaborators for multi-disciplinary field work to do population studies of corvids in Detroit.
I’m looking for students interested in tracking corvid population using traditional methods as well as building low cost prototypes of sensor networks to capture data for audio processing.
There are already commercial-grade tools out there to help scientists deploy sensor networks to study animal populations but these tools are closed source and outside of the price range of researchers. By using open source hardware and software we can make these research methods accessible to all.
